The exhibit was conceived as a cultural exchange, to introduce Chicagoans to an excellent example of contemporary South American art and to give the artist an opportunity to broaden his audience.

"1 Degree South: The Andean Vision of Alberto Soriano" opened Nov. 11, 2005 at Acme Art Works, Chicago, Illinois. The exhibition consisted of 30 paintings by Soriano, and was sponsored by La Posada del Arte, La Peña Restaurant (who catered Ecuadorian food at the opening), and the Peruvian Consulate in Chicago.
