Volcano Tungurahua in the distance
This was our first route, and continues to be a favorite with customers. It is the most challenging of the day trips, with a climb of 800m followed by a screaming 20-km descent to 1750m. The landscape is Andean-pastoral, with a checkerboard of small farms gracing the steep slopes. We cross the beautiful Rio Muyo twice, then follow it's course until it merges with the Rio Pastaza. When the weather is clear, the crater of Volcano Tungurahua is visible across the Pastaza Valley. The price of $35/person includes a Kona or Soma mountain bike, and a trip to the thermal baths after the ride.
